Linen that should look used

New linen is stiff and a little proud. Wash it. Hang it. Use it as a towel, a wrap, an apron. The copper stripe will fade unevenly. That is the cloth doing the job.

Fabric softener coats the fiber and makes it worse at drying pans. Skip it.
